The Johannesburg Chamber was founded in 1890. Over the years it amalgamated with several other chambers. The majority of JCCI’s 2 000 members are in the Gauteng region. However, JCCI is not geographically limited and its services are used on a pay-as-you-go basis by many non-members in the broader business community in all industry sectors. The Chamber’s key stakeholders are representatives of the local, provincial and national government, business associations e.g. Banking Association National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa), South African Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff), South African Property Owners Association (Sapoa), Diplomatic representatives of foreign countries, universities, bilateral chambers, representatives of civic organisations. JCCI is acknowledged as a key source of training and information on importing and exporting. The Chamber was the first in Africa to provide Electronic Certificates of Origin. High-level foreign business delegations are hosted at the Chamber and one-on-one business appointments are set up for the delegates. JCCI also leads selling missions to foreign markets and provides introductions to local business. The Chamber facilitates the involvement of JCCI Global Business Accelerator participants in international exhibitions where their products are given exposure.
