Meant to Bee™ is growing the beekeeping industry through the support and development of rural beekeepers. Meant To Bee™ empowers potential and small-scale beekeepers from Africa to create sustainable, larger scale natural raw honey production enterprises. The Meant to Bee™ partners envision to contribute towards the protection of honeybees. We actively work towards building a trusted African natural raw honey brand based on the capacity to supply ethically sourced honey world-wide. Meant to Bee™ was established to respond to the challenges faced by small and emerging beekeepers in South Africa. As a result, small and medium enterprises form the core of our business model and make up the largest source of honey. Our vision is to become a locally and internationally recognized honey brand that boasts an innovative business model that is propelled by new harvesting technology and innovative business strategies. As a social enterprise we are committed to contributing to the upliftment of small and medium enterprise beekeepers and thereby creating a better life for many people across the country, region, continent, and globally. Meant to Bee™ seeks to produce premium honey and honey products in collaboration with beekeepers to allow them to develop strong sustainable business enterprises thus creating employment opportunities, generating income, and uplifting rural communities. Gender equality and inclusivity are values which are integrated in all aspects of our work. The initiative therefore creates opportunity for rural beekeepers to generate a sustainable income through the development of their business. This in turn strengthens the rural economy. Meant to Bee’s™ business model identitfies rural beekepers, partners with them, providing hives to them in access of 150 hives per beekeeper, gives them all the nessasary equipment needed, including training and mentoring which forms an essential part of the process, helps harvest the honey and gives the beekeepers access to the market.
Meant to Bee™ supports the United Nations sustainable development goals,
SDG 1 : No poverty
SDG 3 : Good health and well-being
SDG 5 : Gender equality
SDG 8 : Decent work and economic growth
SDG 15: Life on land
